# baseball webI am cautiously optimistic about our chances of bringing a minor league baseball team to our town in the near future. Given Saugerties’ tradition of supporting and promoting baseball, a minor league team would be a perfect fit for our community.

We’ve been approached by teams in the past, but never got past the discussion phase because the regulation field we have, (complete with dugouts, locker rooms and viewing stands), doesn’t have lighting for night games. This will soon change as our CFA Grant funding will come in, and the Cantine baseball field lighting project will be completed; opening up the possibility for a minor league baseball team to have a home in Saugerties.

If successful, the presence of a minor league team will provide a boost to our local economy. Dutchess County Executive Marc Molinaro recently noted that the Hudson Valley Renegades drew 280,000 fans to Dutchess Stadium last year and brought in $4.5 million in direct investment to the county. County Executive Molinaro said the Renegades themselves spent $7 million in Dutchess County over the past five years and had a payroll of over $1 million last year.

In addition to boosting local businesses, I firmly believe the presence of a minor league team will lead to the creation of new small businesses owned and operated by Saugerties residents!

A lot has to break our way, but I believe Saugerties has the pieces in place to attract a minor league baseball team. I’ll be sure to keep our community informed of our progress throughout the year.

Peace & Blessings to you and your family,

Kelly Myers
Saugerties Town Supervisor
